 The mini-map mod adds a more advanced map, on which you will show all the mobs, both hostile and friendly, and also when you are in the mine you will see on the map where you have already been and where else you will need to continue searching for precious materials and when you go to the mini map menu, you will find many more functions there than in a regular map like rei's minimap.
